SADD Club Valentine Market
One of the best ways to combat bullying is by fostering a culture of friendliness and support. A small act of kindness can go a long way in making someone’s day. SADD Club will be selling small gifts at the Valentine Market Tuesday, February 11 through Thursday, February 13 in the cafeteria during all lunch periods. You can choose to personally deliver your gift, or if you prefer, we offer a free delivery service to make the process even easier. Let’s work together to create a positive and welcoming environment for everyone. A little kindness can make a big difference!
Illinois State Scholar Photo
Students who were notified by Mrs. Scolaro as this year's IL State Scholars need to report to the PAC at the start of 2nd period on Thursday, February 13th for a group photo. Your IL State Scholar shirt will be delivered to you on Thursday, February 12th. Please wear this shirt for the photo shoot.
Healthy Smiles Collection Drive
Class Officers is hosting the first annual Healthy Smiles collection drive from January 31 until February 13. Homeless shelters are in need of mouth care products. We're asking freshmen to donate the following items: toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, dental floss, and dental picks. Students who bring in one travel sized item will receive one raffle ticket for each item donated. Students who bring in full-sized items will receive two tickets for each full-sized item donated. Those who donate are asked to write their name and id number on the items they donated. The best way is to wrap a piece of paper around the item and put your name and ID number on it. All names will be entered into a raffle and we will raffle off gift cards to local restaurants and stores.
AACA Hosts Events for Black History Month
AACA has organized a month full of events to celebrate Black History Month. All are invited to attend each event listed below. Please sign up for events online.

Flower Sale
Bulldog Dispatch will have a flower sale during all lunch periods on Friday, February 14 for Valentine’s Day! Cost is $2 each or 6 for $10.
Literary Magazine Cover Contest
Literary Magazine is hosting a Cover Contest now through February 15. The theme of the magazine is Reflections and all designs should be sized 8.5” x 11”. Upload your design online. The artist of the chosen design will win a prize.
Tri-M Recital
Tri-M will host their annual recital on Monday, February 19 at 7:00 pm in the Performing Arts Center. All are welcome to attend.
Calling All Readers
Book madness has hit the LRC! Come to the LRC and fill out a book bracket and read as many of our Sweet 16 books as you can to participate and earn prizes in our Book Madness Tournament. Brackets must be filled out by February 20th, books must be read by April 10th and the winner will be announced on April 11.
Winterfest ‘25
Winterfest ‘25 is issuing a new era of fun for everyone! It will be hosted on Friday, February 21 from 6:00-9:00 pm. The main stage will feature a DJ, confetti cannons, and a huge video wall. Throughout the gym will be a variety of interactive experiences including the wipeout pit, glow in the dark axe throwing, video gaming, multiple photo booths and a silent disco with an LED dance floor! Cost is $20 to attend. Tickets can be purchased online. You will be prompted for a password which is the student’s school ID number. Students are permitted to bring guests from other schools with permission. The last day to purchase a guest ticket is Tuesday, February 18, 2025. Guest Permission Forms can be found outside the Activities Office in the Cafeteria.
HLR Film Fest
The 3rd Annual HLR Film Fest will be held on Saturday, February 22 at 7:00 pm in the Performing Arts Center. Cost is $15. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door.
Jazz Coffeehouse & Mid-Winter Band Concert
Richards Bands will be hosting the Jazz Coffeehouse & Bake Sale prior to the Midwinter Band Concert on Wednesday, February 26 at 6:30 pm in the Cafeteria. The Jazz Coffeehouse will open at 6:30 pm followed by a Jazz Band Performance at 7:00 pm. The Mid-Winter Band Concert follows in the Performing Arts Center at 7:30 pm. Stop by to purchase coffee and a tasty treat to support the HLR Band Program.

The Mid-Winter Band Concert will be held on Wednesday, February 26 at 7:00 pm in the Performing Arts Center. All are welcome to attend.
Ramadan Decorating Community Event
The Arab Heritage & Culture Club and MSA are hosting a Ramadan Decorating Community Event on Thursday, February 27 from 6:00-8:00 pm in the Cafeteria. This community event will feature face painting, games, crafts, food samples and more! There is a $1 per person entrance fee. Please enter through Door S3.
Free ECG Screening with Young Hearts for Life
Young Hearts for Life will be hosting free ECG screenings to Richards students on Tuesday, March 4th. This quick and painless screening can identify more than 70% of conditions that can cause sudden cardiac arrest. Parents can register their children online.
Prom Fashion Show
Richards High School will host its 3rd annual Prom Fashion Show on March 7th in the Performance Arts Center! Juniors and seniors are invited to experience the latest prom styles during all lunch periods after workrooms. This exciting event is proudly sponsored by Elegant Couture Dress Shop in Palos Heights and Boss Formal Wear in Evergreen Park. Attendees will not only get an exclusive look at stunning prom attire but also have a chance to win amazing prizes, including a free tuxedo rental and a gift card to use toward the perfect dress!
District 218 Education Foundation Trivia Night
The Friends of Community High School District 218 will be hosting a Trivia Night on Saturday, March 8, 2025, to help raise funds for our student scholarships and teacher mini-grants. This fun evening will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Incarnation Catholic Church Gymnasium in Palos Heights. The cost is $20 per person or $200 for a table of 10. You can register online. You can organize your own group or be assigned a table. This is a “bring your own” type of fundraiser: Bring your own snacks, appetizers, drinks! Keep in mind this is an adult fundraiser…all must be 21 or older to attend! In addition to some friendly competition and lots of laughter, there will be cash $$$ prizes, raffles, and silent auctions.
Family Fun Night
The Parent Liaison Office will host a Family Fun Night on Monday, March 10, 2025 from 6-9pm in the cafeteria. The theme for the night is "March and Spring Forward. Together We Are Stronger." Join us for a night of food and fun! This is a free family event for Richards families.
Free ACT Practice Test for Juniors
All juniors have the opportunity to sign up for a free practice ACT on Saturday, March 15 at Alan B. Shepard High School located at 13049 S. Ridgeland Avenue in Palos Heights from 8:45-11:30 am. This is a test opportunity to prepare you for the official ACT testing day. You must bring your school ID, a fully charged iPad, calculator, and a pencil; water and snacks are suggested.
Six Flags Grad Nite
The Class of 2025 is invited to participate in Six Flags Grad Nite which will take place on Saturday, May 10 to Sunday, May 11 from 8:00 pm to 4:30 am. Please note this is an overnight trip to Six Flags Amusement Park. Cost is $90 which includes transportation, admission, an all-you-can-eat dinner buffet and access to the Student Lounge which features music, movies, games, charging stations and prizes! Tickets can be purchased online through April 7. Non seniors and out of school guests are not permitted to attend.
Summer School Registration
Summer school registration will open on Monday, January 13 and close on Friday, May 16. Click here for summer school information. The cost is $50 per course and you can pay and register online.
K & G Fashion Prom Discount
K & G Fashion Superstore will offer our students a 10% discount this season. To claim the discount, just mention that you are from Harold L. Richards High School.
Prom Dress Student Discount
Elegant Couture Prom Dress Shop located at 12236 South Harlem Avenue in Palos Heights is offering all students a $25 gift card to use towards their prom purchase. To receive the gift card, students must show their current school ID at checkout. Don’t miss this amazing opportunity to save and find your perfect prom look!
Tree Machine Green Raiser
Science Club is sponsoring our Tree Machine fundraiser. They will be collecting donations of clothing, shoes, accessories, and linens. Simply put your donations in a bag and drop them in the green and white Tree Machine bin which is located in the parking lot across from the tennis courts. It’s a great way to clean your closets and support the Richards Science Club!
Class of 2025 Graduation VIP Experience Raffle
The Richards Scholarship Committee has organized a raffle for a Graduation VIP Experience. Winner would receive six graduation tickets, six reserved VIP seats in a private, roped-off section and two dedicated VIP parking spots near the ceremony entrance. 10 Entries cost $25, 30 entries cost $50 and 75 entries cost $100. Contest ends on Sunday, March 30, 2025 and the winner will be announced on Monday, April 7, 2025. All proceeds will benefit the HLR Scholarship Fund. All entries can be purchased online.
