This short video gives an overview of the NJROTC program and specifically addresses the objectives of the program and some of the many fun activities and competitive programs that NJROTC offers. Their is absolutely no military obligation associated with participation in NJROTC. Come join the fun!

what time do Richards high school and welcome to Richard's Navy Junior ROTC in the Bulldog company my name is Commander Doug rotors and I along with Chief Petty Officer Dennis Reynolds are the facilitator the Navy Junior ROTC program a lot of people have questions about Junior ROTC and exactly what it is the textbook definition is that the JROTC program provides an opportunity for secondary school students to learn about personal obligations as American citizens the basic objectives of the program are to develop leadership citizenship self-discipline character respect for authority an interest in the military service in an understanding of the basic elements required of National Security Now what does that really mean well let us show you what it really means in terms of a video that was put together by one of our students just a few years ago hope you found that interesting now I'd like to just take a few minutes to walk you through a few the different activities that we have available to you as an incoming freshman at Richard's njrotc if you are part of Junior ROTC so one of the things that a lot of students like a deer rifle Marksmanship we have our own air rifle Marksmanship team we have a disability practice right in our own classroom and we participate in an annual online virtual league in the fall and then we also participated in a number of different Regional contest travel to places such as Port Clinton Ohio where we fire in some of the ranges you see down in the pictures Below in a really high-tech situation lots of fun we also have a District 218 air rifle between the three high schools and that's always very competitive in a lot of fun in that occurs in April we have four different competitive drill teams armed and unarmed basic drill and also exhibition armed and exhibition drill teams practice a couple of times a week and compete in about five or six drill competitions every year around this area of Illinois we have summer training opportunities go stats at Camp Atterbury in Ohio for our leadership or Advanced leadership training and at the Marcel National Guard Training Center for basic leadership training and it's a week-long train it's very inexpensive usually only $50 per per person for a whole week and there are a lot of different types of activities that we participate in in terms of team-building and learning how to lie learning about influencing other people positively first aid training sailing things like that a personal inspection is one of the competitions that we do we actually and in our inspected in her uniform by a military person and I usually it's a naval petty officer or chief petty officer and you get graded and you get asked at one or two questions and the unit as a whole is giving a grade in the pretty significant part of a drill competition physical fitness team that participates in three or four meets a year against other rjrtc units around the area and that usually involves things like dodgeball curl-ups relay race sometimes tug-of-war a lot of fun and whatever Cadets enjoy that we have some ceiling opportunities I am a part of a a program called liter sale and we actually have some of our Cadets sale down in the British Virgin Islands in the summer time for about 7 Days on large 50 foot sailboats you don't need to know how to sail to do this just need to be willing to learn Color Guard is another one of our competitive events and we also provide color guards for a number of different Community Services throughout the year so this is a very popular thing that a number of our Cadets like to participate in and then community service here on the lower left you can see us walking around our track these Cadets actually walked 11 miles in celebration not really in celebration of it in remembrance of 9/11 that was not this past September to September before down in the lower right you can see some students kind of laid out there we actually participated with the Oak Lawn Police Department in an active shooter training scenario where we served air to Sea Cadets served as the victim's for this South we do a lot of different types of community service activities Leaf raking a wolf Wildlife Preserve pick up helping pumpkins for Halloween Feed My Starving Children so a lot of opportunities to serve in our community and then lastly are Seaport stem initiative we actually have a program where are cadets are able to build an underwater remotely operated vehicle and then compete against other schools up at Great Lakes Naval Station with the ROV that they built so this is also very popular program that we have as you can see jrtc has last offer everybody it falls under the physical fitness department and it does count as a pidove PT or physical fitness credit so if you are interested in learning a lot of interesting things having a lot of fun and getting credit for it for PE charity C is the place to be we wear our our Cadet uniform once a week we
