Welcome to the Richards chess team page. This year we will meet, practice, and compete in person chess tournaments. Hopefully you will be able to join us regardless of your playing ability. We would like to continue our tradition of consistently qualifying for the Illinois High School Chess Tournament held every February in Peoria, Illinois.

Mission Statement: The vision of the Richards Chess is to develop important leadership skills in our students while providing a fun, competitive, and engaging atmosphere that encourages cooperation and friendship. Chess is designed to nurture critical thought in young minds while teaching students how to communicate and execute complex ideas. While doing so, the team will foster a healthy sense of sportsmanship that will prepare students to succeed in life.
Why Join? One of the best experiences you can have at school is to be part of a strong, enthusiastic school team. One of the advantages of joining the chess team is that you begin playing immediately. Chess has many levels of competitive play, with tournament sections often designated by playing ability and skill. You will be able to play in practice and in tournaments throughout the season.
We meet every Monday and Tuesday from 3:15-5:00 for practice and conference matches.
