Driver Ed 4th Period
Course Description
The program is designed to develop positive attitudes and skills sufficient to give young adults a good and safe start to driving. Classroom phase is required for graduation. The program consists of a minimum of 30 hours of classroom instruction and the behind-the-wheel training is optional. Although BTW is optional, you must pass both phases in order to be eligible for an Illinois Driver’s License. The 6 hours behind-the-wheel phase will be completed with a certified instructor. The student must be at least 15 years old at the beginning of the program, complete the graduated license program and upon reaching age 16, they will be eligible to take the road test for a driver’s license. Students must have received a passing grade in at least 8 courses during the previous two semesters prior to enrolling in Driver Education. Students must complete the following requirements before attempting to secure their Illinois driver’s license:
- passing the course with at least 30hrs of classroom instruction
- 6hrs. of BTW instruction with a certified instructor
- completing 50hrs of driving at home with an adult
- waiting nine months from the issue date of their permit
