Classroom Policies:
  • Grading
    • All of my courses follow the District 218 grading scale, and the 65/20/15 model for defining the final grades for the course.
  • Retakes/Revisions
    • All students who want to retake or revise a test, quiz, or CUA must submit a request to do so via a Google Form (found in the Class Resources section of the Google Classroom). The retake or revision must be completed within 1 week of the grade being posted to Skyward.
    • Tests/Quizzes
      • Students are given the opportunity to revise tests or quizzes to earn up to half credit back.
        • For example, if the student takes a quiz and get a 70% on it, the highest grade the student can get on a revision is an 85%.
      • Students cannot complete a retake of a test or quiz if they have any missing assignments. Even if they will not be accepted for credit, students must complete missing work in order to show effort has been made to improve their score. Students may also be required to complete an additional ungraded practice assignment.
    • CUAs
      • CUAs (Common Unit Assessments) may be revised for up to full credit as long as they are turned in early or on time.
  • Late Work
    • Assignments in Class (Coursework/Homework Practice)
      • Students are always given time in class to complete assignments and to allow for them to ask myself or their peers questions to ensure understanding, and will typically be due the next day. Any work not completed in class is expected to be finished at home.
      • If a student misses the due date/time, they may still turn the assignment in up to 2 days (48 hours) late for up to 50% credit on the assignment.
    • CUAs
      • CUAs can be submitted up to 168 hours (7 days late). However, each day a CUA is late the final grade is lowered by 5%. After 7 days, the CUA is no longer eligible to be turned in for any credit.
      • Students are given ample time in class (typically 3-6 days) to complete their CUAs to provide a distraction free environment and allow them to use myself and their classmates as resources. Students who submit their CUAs late forfeit the right to revise their work and accept their grade "as is."
  • Absences
    • Excused Absences
      • Students with excused absences (approved field trips, doctor/dentist appointments, called in sick, etc.) have as many days as they were absent extended on any classwork/assignments due.
      • If a student has an excused absence the day something is due to be turned in, it is expected they will turn it in the next time class meets.
    • Unexcused Absences
      • Students with unexcused absences have decided not to come to class or school. This course follows the CHSD 218 Student Handbook policy stating students with unexcused absences will be written up and lose any credit for assignments due that day including any tests or quizzes.
